Tasker Help

Tasker FAQ

Common questions about payments, Stripe payouts, before & after photos, disputes, tax, safety and more.

Getting Paid

Has the customer actually paid before I start?

Yes. When the customer accepts your offer, they pay the agreed amount through OddJobs using Stripe. This means the payment has been secured before you begin the job. You aren’t completing the work and then hoping the customer pays an invoice afterwards.

When do I get paid?

Once a customer confirms a task as complete, the payment is released to your Stripe account. Stripe then pays your nominated bank account according to its payout schedule.

For most New Zealand accounts, this is typically on a daily schedule with a rolling delay (currently around 4 days for new accounts). Bank processing times may add an additional 1-2 business days.

Your exact payout timing depends on your Stripe account status and any verification requirements Stripe may have in place.

What is the difference between OddJobs releasing payment and Stripe sending it to my bank?

OddJobs payment release: Once the customer confirms the job is complete, OddJobs releases the payment to your Stripe account. This happens within the OddJobs platform.

Stripe bank payout: Stripe then sends the funds from your Stripe account to your nominated New Zealand bank account on its own payout schedule. This involves a rolling delay and bank processing time that OddJobs does not control.

These are two separate steps — the OddJobs release is not the same as the money landing in your bank account.

How does Stripe pay my bank account?

When you set up your Tasker account you will connect a Stripe Express account and enter your New Zealand bank account details. Stripe sends payouts directly to that account on its rolling schedule. You can check your payout status at any time inside the Stripe Express dashboard.

Does OddJobs take a cut?

Platform fees may apply to transactions completed through OddJobs. The fee structure will be clearly displayed before you accept a job. OddJobs does not take any additional amount beyond the stated platform fee.

What if a customer does not mark the task as complete?

If you’ve completed the agreed work but the customer hasn’t confirmed completion, you’re not simply left without payment. OddJobs can review the job details, in-app messages and before/after photos. Where the evidence shows the agreed work has been completed, OddJobs can manually release the funds. Contact us at hello@oddjobsapp.co.nz if you are waiting on a payment that should have been released.

Stripe & Payouts

What is Stripe?

Stripe is one of the world’s leading payment infrastructure companies and handles payments for businesses around the world. OddJobs uses Stripe to securely process customer payments and Tasker payouts. Stripe is certified as a PCI Level 1 Service Provider — the highest level of payment security certification. OddJobs does not store your full card or bank details directly.

Does OddJobs hold my money?

No. Payments are processed through Stripe. When a customer pays for a job, the payment is handled by Stripe’s infrastructure. OddJobs releases the payment to your Stripe account once the job is confirmed as complete, and Stripe then remits it to your bank account. OddJobs does not personally store card information or hold funds outside of the Stripe payment flow.

Is my bank information safe?

Yes. Your payout and banking information is handled through Stripe’s connected account infrastructure. OddJobs does not manually collect or store your bank account details — you enter them directly into Stripe’s secure system when setting up your Stripe Express account.

Why does OddJobs use Stripe?

Stripe is one of the world’s most trusted payment platforms and is used by millions of businesses globally. All customer card details and financial data are handled securely by Stripe — OddJobs never stores your full bank or card details directly.

Can OddJobs speed up my payout?

No. OddJobs does not control Stripe’s payout schedule, processing times, or bank transfer times. These are determined entirely by Stripe’s policies and your bank. If you have concerns about a specific payout, check your Stripe Express dashboard or contact Stripe support directly.

Why is my first payout taking longer than expected?

Stripe applies a longer rolling delay for new accounts while it verifies your identity and bank details. This is typically around 4 business days but can be longer if Stripe requires additional verification. Once your account is established, payouts generally process faster.

What if Stripe asks me to verify my identity?

Stripe is legally required to verify the identity of individuals receiving payouts. If Stripe requests documents (e.g. a photo ID or proof of address), you must complete this to receive your funds. OddJobs cannot bypass or speed up Stripe’s verification process.

Before & After Photos

How do before and after photos protect me?

Before and after photos create a clear record of the work. If a customer disputes whether a job was completed or questions the quality, the photos provide evidence of what was done. This protects you as a Tasker and also protects the customer. Photos are taken through the OddJobs app and stay linked to the job record.

Am I required to take before and after photos?

Yes. Before and after photos are required through OddJobs to create a record of the work. Take a before photo before you start and an after photo when the job is complete. This helps protect both sides if a question ever arises.

Disputes

What happens if there is a disagreement?

If a disagreement arises between you and a customer, OddJobs can review the available evidence to determine the appropriate action under our platform rules. This can include the original job description, the agreed offer, in-app messages, before photos, after photos, and relevant account activity. Where the evidence supports it, OddJobs can manually release the payment.

Can OddJobs release my payment if the customer refuses to confirm?

Yes. If you’ve completed the agreed work but the customer refuses to confirm completion, OddJobs can review the job details, in-app messages and before/after photos. Where the evidence shows the agreed work has been completed, OddJobs can manually release the funds.

Tax & Legal

Do I need to pay tax on what I earn?

Yes. Taskers on OddJobs are independent operators, not employees of OddJobs or BusinessBrain Ltd. You are solely responsible for declaring your earnings to Inland Revenue (IRD) and paying any income tax or GST that applies to your situation. We recommend speaking with an accountant if you are unsure of your obligations.

Am I an employee of OddJobs?

No. Taskers are independent individuals who use the OddJobs marketplace to find work. OddJobs does not employ taskers, does not set your hours, and is not liable for your work. You are responsible for your own insurance, licensing, and tax obligations.

Do I need insurance to do tasks?

OddJobs does not require taskers to hold insurance, but we strongly recommend it — particularly for physical tasks involving property or equipment. Public liability insurance can protect you if something goes wrong on the job.

Safety & Standards

What tasks am I not allowed to do?

The following are prohibited on OddJobs regardless of what a customer posts:

 • Any illegal activities or services
 • Licensed work (electrical, plumbing, gas) without the required licence
 • Anything related to drugs, weapons, or controlled substances
 • Sexual services of any nature
 • Tasks that put you or others at unreasonable risk

If a customer asks you to do something that makes you uncomfortable, decline and report it through the app.

What if I feel unsafe on a job?

Your safety comes first — always. Leave the situation if you feel unsafe and contact emergency services if needed. You can then report the customer through the OddJobs app or by emailing hello@oddjobsapp.co.nz. OddJobs will review and take action on any report of threatening or dangerous behaviour.

Jobs & Scheduling

How do I find jobs near me?

Once you have a Tasker account, the app shows you tasks posted in your area. You can browse by category, distance, and budget. When you find something that suits you, send the customer an offer.

Can I cancel a job after accepting it?

While you can cancel an accepted job through the app, doing so repeatedly will affect your reliability rating and may result in fewer customers choosing you. Only accept jobs you are confident you can complete.

Do I set my own rates?

Yes. Taskers set their own prices and send offers to customers at the rate they choose. Customers can accept, decline, or negotiate. You are never locked into a rate set by OddJobs.

Your Account

How do I build a good reputation?

Complete jobs on time, communicate clearly, and do quality work. After every task, customers can leave a review. Strong ratings lead to more offers accepted and repeat customers. Treat every job as an opportunity to build your profile.

Can my account be suspended?

Yes. OddJobs reserves the right to suspend or remove any Tasker account where there is evidence of fraud, abuse, repeated cancellations, prohibited activity, or conduct that harms other users. You will be notified if action is taken against your account unless doing so would compromise an ongoing investigation.

Payments powered by Stripe

OddJobs uses Stripe to securely process payments and Tasker payouts. Stripe is one of the world’s leading payment infrastructure companies and handles payments for businesses around the world. OddJobs does not store your full card details.
